Are you a slave of Time?
Don’t be a slave of time
One of the best ways to avoid being a slave of time it is to manage timing, not just time.
We must realize that when we manage time, we chase after time. Time is a resource of high value to us, so we want to make the best use of it. We don’t want to waste any part of it, so if we can, we want to fill it up with activities to make it as useful to us as possible.
When we do that, we chase after and are at the mercy of time.
It is quite different when we manage timing.
We see the best time for getting things done and allocate our time accordingly to make things happen.
As a matter of fact, as human beings, we began with the management of timing rather than time. In ancient times, the ways people approached the concept of time differed greatly from how we do today.
Rather than focusing on the rigidity of time, we looked at the fluidity of timing. We go with the flow and rhythm of life. We it’s time to till the soil, we till the soil. When it’s time to harvest the crops, we harvest the crops. When it’s time to do nothing, we do nothing.
It involves paying attention to the natural rhythms and optimal moments for getting things done. It requires attuning oneself to the ebb and flow of energy, focus, and inspiration. By understanding and leveraging the rhythms, we can align our actions with the most conducive moments to maximize efficiency, productivity, and creativity.
It’s quite different today.
We fill up every minute we have with things to do, often taking no consideration of the relevance of timing. On a train, I observe that most people would glue their eyes on their phones. It looks as if it is always the only right thing to do.
Filling up time with activities is not wrong, but if you can consider the relevance of time and use timing as a guide, you will partner with nature to get things done more effectively.
When you know the importance of timing, you don’t just talk. You talk at the right time. This small practice alone is enough to bring more effectiveness to your effort in communication. You give timely reminders to your team; you call your loved ones in time to show your concerns. You create more impact when you speak because people are more ready to listen.
